What we did:

  • We gathered industry leaders to break out of the day-to-day and try a new approach to solving a specific challenge.    
  • Focused on tangible improvements related to the user experience in the neurodevelopmental pathway and how to utilise technology to improve processes, waiting well and Right to Choose/Patient Choice.
  • We produced a set of potential system improvements ready for evaluation and testing for implementation.  
  • Successfully built on existing cross-sector relationships to address opportunities together.

Post-event information

Guided by a shared vision of imagining a region in which people can successfully navigate through their own journey to meet their unique Autism or ADHD needs, attendees developed ideas aimed at simplifying the neurodevelopmental pathways for individuals and families.

It was inspiring to see leaders collaborating on improvements, particularly around leveraging technology to streamline processes and improve accessibility.

The day concluded with presentations from sector leaders on proposed solutions (available for download via links below), with a strong focus on efficiency, transparency, information sharing, and collaboration. Bringing together such a dedicated group of experts was a powerful step toward fresh, collaborative approaches to addressing these challenges.

Duncan has over 15 years of senior leadership experience in the social sector, working across areas like children and families, alternative education, justice, employability, and youth programs.

He has expertise in using technology to automate workflows and enhance user experience, especially in scaling large youth programs.

As CEO of Northpoint, Duncan has led a major transformation, investing in infrastructure, modernizing workspaces, and implementing a new leadership structure. He believes that strong partnerships are essential for improving services and driving system-wide change.

Helen McGlinchey, Director of Children and Young People Services & Clinical Lead

Helen is a BACP Accredited Therapist and Clinical Supervisor with over 17 years of experience in developing therapeutic services, mental health provision, and clinical leadership. She has a strong track record of motivating and developing staff, as well as leading innovative treatment options, including digital solutions for youth mental health. Helen is passionate about early intervention, delivering timely support while ensuring clinical excellence.

Joe Hanney, Assistant Director of Children and Young People Services

Joe has held senior management roles at Northpoint for 18 years and has been instrumental in developing their innovative mental health and neurodevelopmental access point for Calderdale CAMHS since 2013.

He is passionate about continuous improvement and digital innovation to enhance client experience. Joe serves on the West Yorkshire Neurodevelopmental Steering Group and has led initiatives like the Calderdale Right to Choose Navigator and processes to support timely responses and effective waiting strategies.

Amanda is a digital enthusiast who thrives on connecting people and technology in pursuit of great user experiences, and strategic objectives.

Through her work in local government and the non-profit sector in the UK and Canada, she has worked to simplify and streamline projects and processes to deliver real value for stakeholders. Amanda thrives on surfacing data and information in creative ways to drive daily decision making and service delivery.

Gemma Kierczuk - Business Improvement and Implementation Manager

Gemma is an Improvement Manager with extensive experience of mental health, learning disability and children’s services, having previously worked in clinical, operational and commissioning roles.

Having had lived experience of the neurodevelopmental pathway in West Yorkshire she is passionate about ensuring that services meet the needs of neurodivergent people.

Darrin Thomson, Leeds Mental Wellbeing Service Clinical Team Manager

Darrin is an experienced therapist and Clinical team manager, who supports a team of Northpoint employed counsellors offering support to adults with common mental health issues, within NHS talking therapies.

He has played a key role in growth of Northpoint’s NHS talking therapies workforce and has recently been working on implementing the offer of couples therapy for depression. He is passionate about the role he does and giving clients the best experience of the service.

Tasha Walsh, Clinical Supervisor

Tasha is an experienced clinical practitioner with over 15 years of working with CYP. She is a Specialist in the Neurodevelopmental sector both via her private practice and bringing her passion for changes in this area, to Northpoint via development of a ND Brief Intervention offer.

Her next focus hopefully will be bringing together and Leading an Organisational Therapeutic approach towards ND, as well as an Inclusive approach for ND Employees and supporting development of ND pathways across Leeds via multiagency working.

Mike Odling-Smee

Technical Director and Aire Logic Founder

Mike comes from a strong technical and analytical background with a PhD in Atomic and Molecular Physics. He started his IT career in 2000, moving into healthcare IT in 2005. He provides strategic and technical consultancy, helping customers navigate the complexity of healthcare IT and interoperability.

Mike looks at novel ways of solving or streamlining business and technical problems and is keen to maintain a hands-on approach to technology.
